Lars lerin målarskola
Lars Lerin is considered one of the most outstanding watercolour painters in the world. He is renowned for his unique technique and is represented at exhibitions in the Nordic countries, Europe and the USA. It is an honour and a great pleasure to be able to present Lerin’s work in Henningsvær and at Gallery Lofoten.
The artist has developed his own method of colour usage. Grey, blue and ochre may predominate in a variety of different shades. The shades can be deep and dark, or ethereal and bright, seemingly illuminating the image from the inside in a magical fashion. Nature has always been of pivotal importance in Lerin’s work. But they also reveal scenes from our own lives and our common history. Landscapes with pastures and birds, frontages, interiors, souvenirs from travels and meetings with different people. His works may appear both simple yet complex, conjuring up an sense of loneliness and alienation. The common denominator for all of them is that they touch something deep inside of us with their beautiful, distinctive motifs, characterized by melancholia and wistfulness, but also hope and warmth.
Lars Lerin was born in Munkfors, Värmland in and is today a resident

Han studerade vid Gerlesborgsskolan i Bohuslän åren − med Arne Isacsson som konstnärlig mentor och vid Valands konsthögskola i Göteborg −[4] En kort period var Lerin också på konstskola i Stockholm. Watercolour technique fryst vatten a powerful tool in the searching hands of artist Lars Lerin. He is a master of its potential and submits to its capricious temperament. The subjects for his works he finds in the places where he makes his home. He grew up in the Swedish province of Värmland, close to the thick forests and where the long summer nights and the darkness of winter are a part of existence. On the Norwegian Lofoten Islands he discovered the sea and horizon. He has a feeling for the grandeur of natural scenery and a sympathy for the tough conditions beneath which people work there. In his paintings he returns time and igen to how people live and work in home and factory. Memories, words, sentences and fragments of images recur frequently in his paintings; together they form a puzzle of memories which capture impressions of life and warmth such as perhaps no longer exist. It fryst vatten a nostalgic, existential longing common to us all.
