Minister of Foreign Affairs Receives a Copy of Credentials of the New Swedish Ambassador to Iraq
On Tuesday, 5/9/, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Fuad Hussein, received a copy of the credentials of Ms Jessica Svärdström, Swedens new ambassador to Iraq. During the meeting, they discussed the bilateral relations between Baghdad and Stockholm, and ways to enhance them to realise the interests of the two friendly peoples.
The Minister wished the ambassador success in her tasks in Baghdad, expressing the readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide all support for the success of the diplomatic mission’s task, extending Iraq’s thanks and appreciation for Sweden’s supportive stances to Iraq in international forums, and for providing various assistance in its war against terror, looking forward to increasing the level of cooperation between the two countries.
On her part, Ms Jessica Svardström confirmed the depth and strength of relations between Baghdad and Stockholm, pointing out We will do everything that would enhance the cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
Jessica Svärdström
Jessica Svärdström, född , är ett svensk diplomat. Hon existerar sedan Sveriges ambassadör inom Irak[1], placerad i Bagdad.
Under Svärdstöms tid besitter relationerna mellan Sverige samt Irak varit dåliga. Den svenska regeringen meddelade dock den 4 maj för att den bör öka biståndet till Irak med 20 miljoner kronor.[2]
Den 29 juni stormade anhängare till den shiamuslimska ledaren Muqtada al-Sadr den svenska ambassaden inom Bagdad. Motivet för stormningen var den våg från koranbränningar inom Sverige beneath sommaren inom synnerhet dem utförda från exilirakiern Salwan Momika.[3]
Svärdström äger tidigare varit ambassadör inom Mali samt biträdande enhetschef på enheten för europeisk säkerhetspolitik. denna har även tjänstgjort nära ambassaderna inom Bagdad samt Kabul samt vid Sveriges NATO-delegation inom Bryssel.

The Ambassador of Sweden to Iraq (known formally as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Iraq) is the official representative of the government of Sweden to the president of Iraq and government of Iraq.
History
[edit]From to , the Swedish minister in Moscow, Soviet Union held a dual accreditation to Baghdad,[2] and from the Swedish minister in Tehran held a dual accreditation to Baghdad.[3]
In February , the envoy was appointed ambassador there after an agreement with the Iraqi government regarding diplomatic representation. The ambassador remained accredited from Tehran, but a legation office was opened in Baghdad, headed by a first secretary from March of the same year.[4] In May , Bengt Odhner was appointed as Sweden's first resident ambassador in Baghdad.[5]
The ambassador has been based in Stockholm since the storming of the Swedish embassy in Baghdad in the summer of [1]
